While the title of Art Ruprecht's third album, A LOVE SUBLIME, offers a fond wink to John Coltrane, it is the dynamic vibe and adventurous sonic aesthetic of this jazz guitarist that truly shines through. The opening track features an engaging guitar-violin duality, with both instruments played by Ruprecht, showcasing a bright, funky mid-tempo groove. This reflects his influences, including Joe Pass, George Benson, Stephane Grapelli, and Jean-Luc Ponty, along with a nod to his earlier days playing bluegrass. This compelling track lays the foundation for a keenly melodic, rhythmically expansive set, highlighted by dazzling solos from saxophonist Tim Cunningham and fresh interpretations of a hit gospel tune by Kirk Franklin, alongside a beautiful jazz standard.
